Talks About Why Life is a Mess...
Life on this
planet is a mess right now, and there is a good reason for it. Perhaps
your life is a mess on a personal level, too. If so, do not despair.
There is a good reason for that, too.
Conversations with God says that the moment you decide about
anything, everything unlike it comes into the space. This is the Law
of Opposites, playing itself out in a big way. If you do not understand
this law, you will not understand what is going on around you, and you
will become very discouraged, disheartened, disillusioned, and despairing.
Only if you are clear that the World Opposing You is really the Universe
Agreeing With You can you avoid these emotional pitfalls.
| "That
is what evolution calls upon us to be. Clear. Conscious. Aware." |
“The World
Opposing You is the Universe Agreeing With You” is another way
of saying that Macro
Truth Differs from Micro Reality. Yet it is the difference
which makes Macro Truth possible to experience. Without Differences,
Absolutes are impossible to Experience. That is because there is Absolutely
Nothing Else. And Conversations with God makes it clear that
“in the absence of That Which You Are Not, That Which You ARE…Is
NOT.”
In the absence of “cold,” “hot” is not. In the
absence of “up,” “down” is not. In the absence
of “good,” “bad” is not.
And vice-versa.
This is the Law of Opposites, and it cannot be ignored in the physical
world, or what CwG calls “the Realm of the Relative.” Only
in the Realm of the Absolute can the Law of Opposites be overcome. Yet
that does not mean that while we are with our physical bodies we must
be miserable. It merely means we must be clear. We must be conscious.
We must be aware.
That is what evolution calls upon us to be. Clear. Conscious. Aware.
We must also be willing. We are as a magician who is playing with his
own tricks, and we must be willing to play by the rules of the game.
We must know and understand that while what is going on looks very real,
it is a trick. It is a trick of the reality in which we live. And so
we are to not believe a moment of it. This is going to be very difficult,
especially when things are going very badly, because it can all seem
very real.
It is very real, within the limited vision of our narrow perspective.
Only when you stand back and see the grand view can you even begin to
understand. Only when you step back far enough to see the entire tapestry
can you see the wonder of its weavings—which look, up close, like
a total mess.
Dr. Elisabeth Kübler-Ross had a wonderful and picturesque way of
stating this principle: Should you shield the canyons from the windstorms,
you would never see the beauty of their carvings.
You must understand that you live in two realities. There are really
two versions of you. There is Macro You (sometimes called Big Self)
and there is Micro You (Little Self). Another way of putting this is
that there is Universal Self and Local Self. The part of You that is
far away can see the entire tapestry. The part of You that is localized
is up close, with your face right on the surface of the tapestry. All
you can see are the micro-interweavings of the threads. You see things
on the surface, and on the surface of things, they do not look very
pretty.
If you can step back right now, if you will just step back and look
at things from a distance, you will be able to see things from a larger
perspective—the larger perspective of your entire life—from
which you will be able to see and understand exactly why that thread
is going that certain way.
I want to give you an example from my own life. The other night I gave
a wonderful talk in Ft. Collins, Colorado. I won’t even try to
be modest about it. I was really on my game. I was up to the task. I
was in the zone. And when I got off stage I said to myself, “Wow,
now that’s Who I Really Am!”
Then I got back to my hotel room, opened my email, and found some very
unwelcome news. Immediately I was disheartened, upset, beside myself.
I mean to say that I was literally that. I was beside my
Self. My Self, my True Self, was watching all of this and wondering
when my False Self, my Little Self, was going to “get it.”
As soon as I declare myself to be anything, everything unlike it
will come into the room.
| That
is a wonderful statement, and I want you to memorize it and use
it often in your life. “This gift is too big to see up close.” |
It has
to. It must. Otherwise, I cannot experience Who I Really Am.
Because if “cold” were not part of the experience, “hot”
could never be. That is why all Masters have said, “Judge not,
and neither condemn.” My job in that moment was to not judge the
content of that email, but to praise it. For the real issue in my life
is not whether I am demonstrating Who I Am when I am in front of an
audience, but when I am alone; not only when things are going well,
but when they are not; not just when I am on top of the world, but when
I have hit bottom.
When I step back far enough to see the gift in the contents of that
email, I step back far enough to receive it. For the gift is way too
big to see up close.
That is a wonderful statement, and I want you to memorize it and use
it often in your life. “This gift is too big to see up close.”
When I enlarge my perspective, I alter my perception, seeing things
that I could not previously see. This is what is meant by, “Once
I was blind, but now I see.”
Then the next question will be, will I believe what I see? Will I believe
that I am Who I Really Am? Every outward evidence will be to the contrary.
Yet it is not with my outer sight, but with my inner sight, that I must
look at the image of my Self that is right in front of me. Not with
my two eyes, but with my third eye. Then I have insight, and
I see things differently. Not only the Self, but all with which I have
surrounded the Self. All the conditions, circumstances, situations,
people, places, and events. Then, my world itself changes. Then, believing
is seeing.
What are you believing when you are seeing what you are seeing around
you? If you changed your belief, would what you are seeing look a different
way? Would IN-sight create a new OUT-look?
The answer is yes.
Of course, you cannot pretend that what you are looking at is not there.
That would be crazy, and it would make you crazy. But you can see its
“thereness” in a new way. You can decide that you put
it there. Then you will stop seeing yourself as the “victim”
of it, and begin looking at why you put it there.
What is it you are trying to tell yourself? What is it about your Self
that you are trying to remember?
What is it you are trying to remember right now, as you are
reading this? Who do you think put this here before you?

Message
From Neale
My dear friends,
We are moving closer and closer to what for me is going to be the biggest
event of the first half of this year, and I am so very excited.
On May 8 I will be sitting down with a small group of highly committed spiritual
seekers to explore in depth the new material that has just been given to
us, at last, about death and the process of life—material that has
never before been seen in any of the previous Conversations with God
dialogues.
It was several years ago that I was told that a final book in the CwG
cosmology, to be called Dying with God, was going to be given to
us. I began to prepare for the writing of that book in the late summer of
2001. Then came 9/11, and my entire energy field shifted—as did that
of most of humanity. Another book and another message wanted to come through
in the aftermath of that horrific experience. That book was called The New
Revelations, and it explained in the clearest terms yet how an event
such as 9/11 could occur, what belief systems were creating such behaviors,
and what humanity could do if it wished to avoid such out-picturings in
the future. In The New Revelations we were given The Five Steps
to Peace, which have since formed the basis of the worldwide mission of
Humanity’s Team (www.HumanitysTeam.com).
And so, the book on death was
put on hold.
Two more books followed The New Revelations, both of them carrying
forward the theme of that important book. (The New Revelations has been
called by many the most powerful and socially relevant book of all the CwG
dialogues.) These two new texts were Tomorrow’s God and What
God Wants. Taken together, I call these three The Second Trilogy, matching
in impact and importance the First Trilogy of CwG Books 1, 2, and 3. The
Second Trilogy deals with on-the-ground conditions around the world today
and gives us a clear path to a new tomorrow, should we choose to no longer
move in the direction we are now taking.
That work finally done, my mind was clear and open and ready, at last, to
take on the task of bringing through the material that had been “put
on the shelf.” In the spring of 2005, I set about to produce, finally,
the book that everyone had been waiting for: Dying with God.

We've
added a very special afternoon to the Upcoming Home with God Retreat!!!
For
those in attendance, we will be offering an afternoon with Neale
on a walking tour of Ashland, Oregon to visit locations for scenes
that were filmed last fall for Conversations with God - The
Movie.
In addition to visiting the scene locations, Neale will offer
insight into the story behind the scenes and share his very personal
accounts of what the scene was about, and how the moment portrayed
in the movie affected his journey to discovery while writing Conversations
with God.
This will be a very intimate and personal journey, and a truly,
once in a lifetime chance to experience a "behind the scenes"
look at Neale's extraordinary story.
“I knew that my whole life would change…”
“Somewhere
in the middle of the second day I knew that my whole life would
change. I was right. It has. Thank you, thank you, thank you for
this incredible experience. I get it! I am ‘not my story’!”
Jeanne K., Philadelphia
This
is typical of the many positive reactions we have gotten to the
spiritual renewal retreats created by the Conversations with
God Foundation and facilitated by Neale Donald Walsch. Here’s
another…
“Remarkable. Deeply insightful. And tremendous fun. It
was all that I hoped for, and more. This really got me in touch
with the Truth about me. It was a truth that I dared not believe
until now.”
Alex O., London

And now we are excited to tell with you that the stunning messages
of Home With God - In a Life that Never Ends will be shared
with a retreat audience for the first time since publication of this
remarkable book, when Neale meets with a handful of people in Ashland,
Oregon May 8-14, 2006… a week that could change your experience
forever.
This week will explore life and living and death and dying in a way
that you may never have explored them before. If you are facing a

Barely had I
gotten a few chapters into the writing when I was told by my publishers
that they did not think the title would work, that with all the death
in the world, people needed a book of hope, not a book with the word “dying”
on the cover. Could I think of another title?
Another title? I thought. How can I do that? This is the title I’ve
had in mind from the beginning. But then I decided to let the suggestion
in. I decided to listen to the voices that were inviting me to change
it. Was it not possible for the world around me to be bringing me messages
from the Divine? Could it be that the title that I had in mind
was not the title that God had in mind?
I went within. I considered this deeply. I talked about it with those
around me. Then one of my dearest friends, Will Richardson, who has been
at my side from just after publication of the first CwG book,
sent me an email in which he said that the appropriate title for the text
had just come to him. “Call it,” he said, “Home
with God.”
I knew immediately that he was right. This was the title that the
book itself was calling for. I sent the suggestion to New York. It
took my editor minutes to respond. “Yes!” she said. “This
is it!” Within days the book’s subtitle came to me, and I
sent that to New York as well. Again, within minutes, I received a response.
“Yes! This is perfect!” Thus, the book became: HOME WITH
GOD in a Life That Never Ends.
The book began to “rewrite itself” almost immediately. I was
called to the small portion that was already written and invited by my
Self (where God resides) to reenter the dialogue to reflect the new sense
of where the book was going—and where it was always meant to go.
The rest, as they say, is publishing history. HOME WITH GOD in a Life
That Never Ends was published on March 21, 2006. Within eight days
it had reached #1 on both Amazon.com and Barnes&Noble.com, the two
biggest Internet bookstores in the world. Two weeks after that it hit
the New York Times Bestseller List, the pinnacle of publishing achievement.
It is the sixth Conversations with God book to make that list.
All this is not in the way of bragging, and I hope you know that. I have
no need for self-aggrandizement—and, in fact, every need to steer
clear of it. I am telling you this here so that you may know that this
is a very special text that has been given to all of us—a message
of hope and healing for the world entire. And that is why I am so excited
about what is happening on May 8. On that day I will open the first seven-day
retreat I have ever presented. It is a Spiritual Renewal Week the likes
of which most people have never given themselves, built around the breathtaking
messages in HOME WITH GOD in a Life That Never Ends.
A tiny handful of people will sit down with me from May 8-14 to take a
deep look at this material and how it could be applied to their daily
lives. This is the only time in 2006 (because my schedule for these 12
months has been made up a year ahead of time) that I will have the opportunity
to join with others for a week of such intense, deep exploration of what
has been brought through in this final dialogue. These will be people
who have a special inner reason to come to this material. And so, this
will be a very special moment.
Most of the people who are traveling to Ashland, Oregon for this week
of spiritual renewal have already reserved their space in the intimate
room where we will all convene. There is some space left, and somewhere
in the world the few more people who were intended from the beginning
to be joining us are now becoming aware of that.
There are just a few people left, a few who seek healing and comfort around
the loss of a loved one, a few who seek greater insight and awareness
about the process of death and what the Soul will encounter in the Afterlife,
and a few who wish to become teachers and healers with this wonderful
material. Those few are coming to this thought now, and will be soon making
arrangements to reserve the last spaces in this May 8-14 highly intimate
retreat with me.
I watch this process with interest and with inspiration. And, as I said
earlier, with excitement. Thank you, God, for this message, and the people
who will hear it and share it.
Love and hugs . . . Neale
Return
to Table of Contents
Hello
My Friends:
First a quick update
on the Foundation’s current state of affairs. We’re headed
into the retreat that starts the 8th of May. This will be an interesting
one in many ways. The topic is Home with God and much of that
includes all new subject matter. Actually, it’s much of the same
material and issues that often come up within any retreat, but I imagine
the individuals attracted to this retreat topic may have a specific interest
in the subject matter of death and life after life. I think we’re
all really anticipating a rich and dynamic group.
The best part of doing
a retreat is that we get to see some of the people that are so touched
by Neale’s work, and there’s an element of “show time”
to the whole experience that I personally really like. I notice that even
though we’re a little less than two weeks out right now, my sense
of time is really off and the event seems closer than it really is. What
that tells me is that I’m excited and a bit edgy about all of it.
When I first came
to CwG, as part of the LEP’s first FasTrak group, my very
first exposure to Neale and the Foundation (other than the 6 weeks of
conference calls and paper writing prior to coming to Ashland) was the
Annual Holiday Retreat. When I arrived, I checked into the hotel and came
down to register for the retreat and get my schedule – I was full
of a type of nervous energy I always have when I encounter a group of
people that I don’t know very well. It seems like no matter how
much I progress in my own personal journey I get really anxious about
going into new groups of people. I must say that the Holiday Retreat turned
out to be a very different experience than I imagined it would be. Immediately,
I felt very much a part of the group and not my usual experience of being
apart from the crowd.
Now several years
have passed and I’ve observed this phenomenon with many groups of
people and what I’ve concluded is that CwG attracts people
with a certain type of energy.
Please understand
this is just my own personal take on this. I have no idea if there is
any basis in fact, but I have an inkling that if we could test it in some
measurable way it would prove to be true.
There are all kinds
of people that fall in love with CwG; rich and poor, happy and
unhappy, all nationalities and religious background. You may have noticed
this as well. I’m sure many of you have experienced giving one of
Neale’s books away to someone you think will just love it, only
to find that they couldn’t get through the first couple of chapters
and just didn’t get it at all. What I’ve come to understand
is that most people don’t make it through the first thirty pages
and the ones that do, for the most part, fall in love with it. I think
that this phenomenon is based in energy and resonance. As the books clearly
state, God will meet each of us exactly where we are, as we are. I think
those that fall in love with CwG are at a certain place and vibrate
and resonate at a certain frequency.

Oh, I know everything
boils down to energy and resonance, but for the most part people that
resonate with CwG also resonate well with one another. We just
tend to vibrate at a very similar frequency and when we encounter one
another, that resonance carries over into the encounter. When we gather
as a group the energy can be really incredible and the experience be very
powerful for everyone.
I think this is the
anticipation that right now has me a little ahead of myself. The other
thing that is really cool about doing a retreat (from my workaholic perspective)
is that in this kinetic energy we work really long days from about 7 or
8 in the morning until 10 or 11 at night. When you have a small group
of people working these long hours in intense energy, the experience creates
a myriad of emotions – and let me tell you we go through them all.
In the end, these retreats bond us as much if not more than the participants,
but getting to that ending can be one amazing, and sometimes trying, process.
What I’m the most clear about is that each and every one of us at
the Foundation loves this part of what we do, and that love for the CwG
material and for the job that we’re doing creates a unique and powerful
experience for those that have the opportunity to join us.
So this week is all
about getting all the stuff we need together. The last few participants
will enroll over the next 5 days or so. There are name badges to be printed
and assembled, there is equipment to be packed and loaded and moved, there
are rosters to be compiled, there are staff arrivals to be coordinated
and schedules to be printed, there is product to be ordered and on top
of that there is just business as usual. We’re so lucky to have
Will, our Retreat Coordinator, and a handful of volunteers that really
help us make it all come together.
The venue for this
retreat is new to us. For a long time we’ve done our retreats at
a local hotel on the outskirts of Ashland, but for 2006 we decided to
try something new. We found this wonderful place in downtown Ashland called
MoJo Rising. It’s an old brick building that’s been totally
gutted and restored. It reminds me of a beautiful art gallery and it’s
going to create a wonderful backdrop for our retreats. It’s big
and open and airy but I think within that openness we’re going to
be able to create a very warm and intimate setting.
Neale and some of
our local friends will be returning from the Spiritual Cinema Circle’s
cruise this weekend which assures us a well rested group that is ready
to get back to work. That’s a great thing too. Often, for instance
with the Holiday retreat where we start two days after Christmas we sort
of start out tired to begin with, but that won’t be the case for
this retreat.
I’d love to
tell you all about the content of this retreat and more about how the
days will unfold, but that’s not possible. While we have an idea
and understanding of the material that will be discussed, what happens
in a retreat is truly the product of the collective consciousness of the
group. I’m sure you could boil any gathering of people down to that,
but unlike a play or scheduled program, our retreats are to some degree
made up as we go. It will start Monday evening with Neale discussing the
messages of Home with God. Then we, the staff, will begin to
watch for what we call “the room to pop”. This may happen
the first night or we may be into the evening of the second day, but inevitably
the “room will pop”.
What that means is
that eventually a participant will go from a place of intellect to a place
of deep heart and then the magic begins. Once this individual breaks the
ice, many will follow. I’d love to tell you I understand exactly
what happens next, but I can’t. All I can tell you is that it is
magic. Neale, his understanding of the material, his deep love and understanding
of people, and his sincere empathy and deep integration with the ideas
of oneness, along with Don and/or Cathy’s music produce an experience
for all present that is truly life altering and remembered forever.
For this retreat Neale
will be doing Monday evening through Thursday night. Then Friday will
be a day with Master Young Hee and a Dahn Hak experience. Dahn Hak is
an energy practice that was my first really tangible experience of the
flow of energy. I’m not sure what she has planned for Friday, but
whatever it is, it will be fun and uplifting. We’ve never included
a full day of Dahn Hak in one of our retreats, but because it’s
so popular with our participants, we decided to try it.
Saturday’s and
Sunday’s programs will be facilitated by Joanna and Rachael and
it will be a different kind of experiential application of the material
found in Home with God. I have no idea what Joanna is planning but I can
assure you it will be deep and profound.
It’s one thing
to read the CwG material and it’s a whole different thing
to have the experience and be witness to it when it comes alive –
as I said before it’s just magical.
I’d love to
tell you that I have something to do with this magic, but I’m clear
– and my staff is very clear – I’m the business person
in the space. I conduct the business that allows these wonderful people
I have around me to have a platform on which to create the magic that
is a Conversations with God retreat.
May your life be full
of love and light in the week to come.

Questions
and Comments from CwG Readers
dear neale…
please respond to my family asap. we are becoming divided re: the care,
comfort & well-being of our 89-year-old mother in a nursing home.
she is very ill & has been for a very long time w/ advanced Alzheimers
& and many other medical aliments - but has gotten progressively worse.
she has just had her toe amputated and has contracted aspirating pneumonia
in the hospital. now, back at the nursing home - we have been 'told' not
to give her liquids (esp water) w/ a straw, only a spoon
(and thickened). mom has had an aversion to utensils & had been taking
very little (if any) food as a result. a straw is the only way she takes
any sustenance & not very much of it this way.
the nursing home has 'battled' us consistently w/policy, rules & regulations
which we feel are compromising our mother's well-being. my father is even
scared to get in 'trouble' if we don't do things 'their' way. we don't
even have any communication w/ her doctor & care plans & meds
have been ordered & changed w/out our knowledge or even 1st being
consulted.
now, some of us want to remove all meds & some don't & the family
is becoming divided. most of us feel she should have whatever she wants,
whatever way she takes it, whenever she wants it. according to 'their'
rules - when mom wakes up & I am there & want to give her water
- i can't – because she is on 'their choking list' & we must
be in the dining room in front of nurses & staff. so we are supposed
to get her up & dressed & all, to the dining room or call &
wait for someone to come to give her water? her tongue is shriveled up,
her lips are stuck together & i can't give my mother water?
mom had been in mental anguish for the longest time but now has a calm
about her, even though she is mostly unresponsive. her 'time' may be coming
soon but she has clung to this life w/ an amazing resilience. her little
body is so frail. it has been so hard & sad to witness her life going
on like this. we just want her to be happy & give her whatever she
may need, but we all can't agree on what is best for her.
i have asked God for help but have been unable to come up w/ the 'right'
course of action. we have sought help from hospice, the nursing home,
priests, friends, family council, the media & advocate groups. but
we can't come to any conclusions or agreement on what is best for our
mother.
please give us your input.
thank you, neale! with much fondness - tony jr.
Dear Tony,
I must be old fashioned, but I can tell you that if I were the husband
of that lady I would want no one deciding what is best for her but me...she
and I were there before anyone else existed. We began the journey together
and we end the journey together, and nothing and no one comes between
us, not even our own children, who we brought into this world, by the
way...
I would say to my children, “Excuse me, but even before you were,
I was...”
So I guess what I am saying here is, unless there is some mental failing
on his part, your Mother’s husband should be the one making
these decisions—whether you children like what he is deciding or
not. This is not a “family decision,” this is a husband and
life partner’s decision.
You have not said in your note to me that your Father has diminished mental
capacities...only that he is “scared” to “get in trouble”
if things are not done the way the nursing home wants them done. That
bit of apprehension does not disqualify your Dad from making the major
decisions regarding his wife and your Mother, Tony, unless I live in another
world...
Give your Father his due and stop complicating things for him. Support
him in whatever decisions he makes. That is the way to make it easier
for him—and, incidentally, for all the children, too. You can disagree
with your Father, but he is still your Father—and, perhaps more
significantly, the husband and life partner of the woman we are talking
about here. When she was younger and more herself, to whom would your
mother, herself, turn for advice?
Have I missed something?
Is there something here that you are not telling me, such as, “My
mother hated my father and would never ask him for the time of day, much
less what to do now..."
From a spiritual point of view, there is no “right” and “wrong”
here...so if you are looking for simple advice, the only counsel I can
give you is...if your mother herself is now at peace, with whatEVER is
going on, why are you allowing yourself to become so agitated? And if
you think that she is suffering so (even though she apparently has no
experience of it—which, by the way, means that she is not), then
all the children may want to pitch in and either get her a private nurse
or do whatever else is necessary to give her better care than you feel
she is receiving where she now resides.
I am puzzled as to how it can be that you have no contact with her doctor.
Does he practice in another state? On the moon? From an offshore tax shelter?
What stops you children and your Dad from simply making a joint appointment
and all going over to see him at his office to discuss your Mother’s
meds and other aspects of her care? Does he refuse to see you? Does he
cancel your appointments? Does he evade you in the hallways? Has this
man been reported to the County Medical Society and the AMA? Or...could
the problem be on your family's end, do you think?
Anyway, Tony, from the who-says-that-I-know-anything deptartment, those
are my observations. I send you my best thoughts during what I know is
a challenging time for you and your family. Send up a prayer to God, Tony.
A simple one. "Please, dear God, help my mother as she makes her
final journey Home." Then be at peace, and rest your mind if you
can. I know this time is not easy.
Love,
Neale.
[Editor’s Note: Tony let us know that his mother has made her transition.
We send our blessings to her and to all of Tony’s family.]

Kathi
My Dear Kathi,
The answer is "yes" to both questions. But boy, do you ever
want to read HOME WITH GOD in a Life That Never Ends. Not next week, not
tomorrow, but right now. Get it, and READ it. It deals directly with what
you are asking about here!
Love and hugs...neale.

Dear Neale,
Have you had any thoughts of producing the "Prayer for the Dying"
from "Home with God" as a prayer card that could be sold? As
a young Catholic child I was given a pocket-sized card to carry with me,
it had a painting of the Blessed Virgin Mary on one side and a prayer
on the other. I suppose it felt a little like a talisman and I was one
of many children who regularly carried these during my schooldays. I think
the idea was that you had a prayer to hand in time of trouble or accident.
I like the idea of having your prayer on my person, it's so moving and
comforting for anyone in need. It could be produced in a format that could
be carried in handbag, pocket, etc. or maybe even as a bookmark. In any
case it could be laminated to make it last longer and could then be sold
through bookshops.
I love your series of books, particularly the latest and just wish I'd
been able to read your poem to my father when he was dying, it would have
brought him such solace.
Thank you for your inspiration and clarity.
Bless you,
Anne Francis

Dear Anne Francis,
That is a wonderful suggestion, and the answer is, no, I had not thought
of that. But I will give it serious thought now. Thank you for suggesting
it. You are right, The Prayer for the Dying in Home With God is very healing
and brings great comfort. I will see what we can do to make it more widely
available to everyone.
Love...neale.
If you would like to send
a comment or a question to Neale here at the Weekly Bulletin, you may
do so by addressing an email to: weeklybulletinresponse@cwg.org.
Please note that because of the volume of mail that we receive, it is
possible your letter will not get printed here. However, we do our best
to see that all letters get a response, if not directly from Neale, then
from a CwG Foundation staff person, or LEP participant.
